About

For ten years I wrote a Sunday column for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat called “A Mind at Large.” I’ve always said it was the most fun, least paid job I ever had, and that I would do it again in a heartbeat. Well, here it is. This blog is an extension of that exercise, that philosophical examination of life on the third planet. Its intent is to provoke thinking—on my part and on yours—a delightfully disturbing pastime. And, if I can find a publisher for my little book, Wallowing in Life, well, so much the better.  RPH

  1. Wonderful to catch up with your writings again. I am now in the process of writing a resume on my thoughts surrounding the Pinot noir grape, hence the pleasure of revisiting your prose on the subject. Pinot noir can be the cerebral enema of winemaking or the greatest thrill in the cellar. The ultimate thinking cultivar but essentially a white wine grape variety( as per Champagne) which only makes great reds under special conditions.
Thank you for staying in the game!

    1. What a delight to hear from you. Glad to hear you’re still taking on the grand Pinot. You know my admonition I think: great PN inspires one to create new sins…and wish to commit them!
